Inclusion of Disabled Youth and NEETs: A Major Challenge for Europe

For decades, numerous reports have highlighted the need to strengthen the integration of young people with disabilities and NEETs (youth not in employment, education, or training) in key areas such as employment, education, sports, and culture. Despite efforts, including the Lisbon Strategy adopted in 2000 aimed at eradicating poverty and social exclusion, these groups remain marginalized.

The European Union continues to prioritize this issue, with the goal of ensuring equal opportunities for all while combating persistent prejudice and discrimination. In this context, an innovative project has emerged, directly involving NEETs and young people with disabilities.

A Pioneering Project for Inclusion

This project, called “The Inclusion Olympics”, aims to raise awareness among professionals and volunteers in the fields of animation, social work, and education, as well as institutions and the general public, about the issues of equal opportunities and respect for human rights.

Designed as a pedagogical tool that is both fun and collaborative, this game combines knowledge and sports challenges, allowing everyone, whether disabled or not, to participate. Aimed at a wide audience, from ages 9 to 99, “The Inclusion Olympics” serves as an accessible means of awareness, offering a unique perspective on the daily realities faced by young people with disabilities in Europe.

An Educational Tool for Professionals

Beyond its entertainment value, this game is a new tool for education and social work professionals. It aims to equip them to better welcome and integrate these young people into their structures. By fostering a better understanding of the challenges these youth face, the project hopes to increase their active participation in society.

Results from Field Surveys

Field surveys conducted in Romania and France as part of this project reveal data on inclusion that will help refine the game’s content.

To explore:

The inclusion of all youth, regardless of their conditions, remains a crucial issue for Europe’s future. It is time to turn words into concrete actions.
